Are you interested in being on the Board of Governors? Please get in touch with Mark Matthews (markmatt@pacbell.net) to see how you can get involved! GOLF BOARD OF GOVERNORS MARK MATTHEWS Chair TONY RAPOSO Social Committee Chair STEVE ARCURI Golf Committee Member CHRIS WISNER Food & Beverage Committee Chair NANCY LUKE Golf Committee Member MARK RUBINS Golf Committee Co-Chair ROD BROWNLEE Emeritus Board Chair RICK LEDERMAN Outgoing Chair JAN BELLO Member Engagement Committee Chair BOB CERRI Golf Committee Co-Chair Last quarter, we talked about the purpose of the Board of Governors and how it serves the members of the Club. As you might recall, I wrote that the primary purpose of the Board is to work with Club management and staff to improve our Club members' experience of Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club, regardless of membership type. So, in reality, how does that work? Board members represent all demographics and ages of our membership, including youth, ladies, men, golf, social, athletic, fit, physically challenged, and seniors who rarely, or never, play golf anymore. Ours is a diverse membership with mixed interests and desires. Board members listen to the desires of the members and bring those issues to our Board meetings for discussion and action. It is also the purpose of the Board to look for new ways to engage our members in the use of the Club, whether it be golf, dining, fitness, or some other form of Club entertainment. Here are a few real-life examples: Restrictive Golf Carts A few of our physically challenged golfers were finding that the GPS restrictions of the new golf carts were limiting their ability to comfortably get to our greens and to their balls. After speaking with a Board member, the issue was discussed in a Board meeting; it was brought to management, and a solution was found. Result: Happy members, no longer frustrated by our new carts. Menu Selections Several members were missing the Cobb Salad from our Summer Menu. This was brought to the attention of Board Member, Nancy Luke, who presented it to the Board and management. The Cobb Salad is back on the new menu. Result: Happy members with happy tummies. Repair of Cart Paths For years, golf members have asked that repair of cart paths be made a budget priority. Bob Cerri, Co-chair of the Golf Committee, and his predecessor, Andy Meach, surveyed every cart path on the Course and prioritized the repair of the cart paths. Working with Course Superintendent, Fernando Villagran Costello, and General Manager, Dennis Stankovic, the budget dollars were, at last, made available and in the last quarter, 10,000 sq. ft. of cart paths were repaired. Result: Happy and safer members. Board Members Want to Hear from You If you have ideas or suggestions, your Board members want to hear from you, no matter how big or small your idea might be. Check out the Board Members in the Newsletter and their committee roles. Let the appropriate Board member or I hear from you. Result: A happy Club family.
